Futures

A future is a standardised forward contract that is traded on a futures exchange. It represents a mutually binding agreement between two parties to acquire a commodity in the future whose quality, quantity, price and place of delivery are determined in advance. The loss/gain from the futures position is offset daily (mark-to-market). The futures are traded on the options exchanges (EUREX). Depending on the type of underlying asset, a distinction is made between interest rate futures, currency futures, stock index futures and precious metal futures.
