Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA)

The DJIA, often referred to as the Dow Jones for short, is one of the oldest share price indices still published in the world today and is published by the Wall Street Journal. It is a price index containing 30 US companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange. In contrast to newer indices, the weighting of the individual shares is not based on their market capitalisation, but on the proportion of the respective share price and the sum of all share prices. To keep the index consistent over time, adjustments are made for share splits and the like.
