- Institutional buyout (IBO): Acquisition of the majority or the entirety of a company by an institutional investor or financial investor.
- Leveraged buyout (LBO): Acquisition of a company involving a large amount of debt capital to settle the purchase price.
- Management buyout (MBO): Acquisition of the majority of a company by its own management.
