We would like to inform you of developments in our investment manager selection process and of the resulting decision to terminate our Internet platform fmbase.com as of September 30th, 2010.

We put great emphasis on providing clients with a transparent and well-structured process for selecting investment managers. We have improved our selection process in order to evaluate an even larger number of candidates for every mandate to be awarded based on the principles of fair competition and equal treatment. We have developed a systematic screening methodology that allows us to efficiently screen and analyze a large universe of asset managers and portfolios.

The process is divided into two phases. The goal of the first phase is to screen a broad universe of investment managers on the basis of predefined and transparent selection criteria. To collect timely information from managers, we conduct regular market screens for each asset class or mandate type. Any investment manager can participate free of charge. Based on qualitative and quantitative criteria, market screens provide clients with a transparent tool for the selection of managers that qualify for the second phase.

In the second phase, candidates selected based on the market screening receive a detailed questionnaire and an invitation to submit a tender. The evaluation is done using the criteria: company, product, people, process, performance and price. Typically, candidates are visited on site or invited to make a presentation in the presence of the client. The goal of the visit or presentation is to facilitate a detailed examination of the people and process and to validate the information given in the tender.

The methodology and instruments applied in our search process have been tested in several public tenders in accordance with Swiss or European public procurement regulations, which we have conducted on behalf of clients.

We have reviewed fmbase.com in the context of our improved selection process. We came to the conclusion that the selection process no longer required the information on fmbase.com. This led to the decision to terminate fmbase.com as of September 30th, 2010.

We will continue our ongoing dialogue with investment managers in the best interests of our clients. We have appointed a dedicated person, who will assist asset managers in all requests for meetings. All requests will be discussed by the investment specialists at PPCmetrics AG.
